Harmony and Pandas

Hello my pipple (still thinking about what to call you guys).

Yin-Yang- a symbol of balance and harmony with Panda footprints

So today, I want to talk about Harmony and Pandas.

Well according to Elena Harris

The panda is a powerful spirit animal inspiring tranquil strength and determination. Under its soft and fuzzy appearances, this animal totem brings forth the importance of strong personal boundaries to feel safe and grounded in life. If you have the panda as spirit animal or totem, you may be inclined to be emotional and feel like you need strong material and physical comfort to feel at ease in your life. Symbolic of the ability to find a balanced and nurturing path through life, it will encourage those who have it as totem or power animal to integrate different aspects of their personality into a harmonious whole.

Well I think she talking lots of rubbish about spirit animals, animal representation and blah blah blah…but one thing I got from her quote was the end part “integrate different aspects of their personality into a harmonious whole".

Basically in Chinese mythology, pandas represent harmony. I love pandas; they are cute and squishy and wear simple colors.
Last weekend I watched the “Kung-fu Panda 3” animation movie and here is a basic run-down

In the movie, Po (the Panda) must lead his friends and family in defeating the evil Kai. Throughout the film Po has to learn many life lessons. He learns to balance life between his adoptive father Mr. Ping, and his biological father, Li. He learns how to blend his life between the Furious Five (his group of friends), and the many ancestors of the Panda tribe whom he has just met. He also learns how to be a leader, even when he feels he can’t. All these lessons come up during his journey to find his “chi” in order to defeat Kai.

During his journey, his master said this to him
“Your real strength comes from being the best you you can be. Who are you? What are you good at? What makes you, you?”
Po at the time did not know who he was, but on his journey to defeat Kai, Po finally discovered what he was good at and guess what he it was. Po had the unique ability to empathize with others and form harmonious relationships with them.

With the help of his family, Po overcame his fear of leadership and together with his friends, he discovered the power of chi and defeated Kai.
You all know the popular proverb - “no man is an island”… Po learnt this lesson as he could not defeat Kai on his own; but with the help of his friends, he did just that.

Now to draw closer to home; I remember the days of my compulsory National service, I came to have two friends(for the sake of avoiding lawsuits, the names are changed);  one is known as snakeMan and the other was called SoonTobeBaldGuy. Together the three of us had fun and flexed our camp days; we came to be known as the three Muchachos..(yea fun days).
Yea...the three muchachos

So after camp; snakeMan, SoonTobeBaldGuy and me rented a flat together; I was the money guy(yea me!!), snakeMan was the house Madam and soonTObeBaldGuy was just……soonTobeBaldGuy....

As a naturally lazy person, I did not contribute much to house management, SnakeGuy was the woman in charge, he cooked, tidied up, cleaned and always ranted about my laziness; looking back, we butted heads a lot(he was the yin to my yang) but SoonTobeBaldGuy was always there to keep us in line……he was like the glue that held us together in those mosquitoes filled days.

Overtime, we resonated and bonded despite our contradictions and differences and formed a formidable front.
We covered all our weaknesses and low points. The relationship between us was harmonious (pun intended)…….what we could not do individually, we accomplished as a unit. Today our bond is still strong and though we are still figuring things out (like how me and soonTobeBaldGuy are gonna force snakeMan to stop being snakeMan) we are evolving in our relationship and cohabiting in harmony.

Remember the words of Master Shifu

A single tree does not make a forest; a single string cannot make music. Many things require people to work together to achieve something significant. Many hands make light work”
